Woking’s new MP calls for an immediate bilateral ceasefire in Gaza

19 Jul 2024

Will Forster, Liberal Democrat MP for Woking has today signed an Early Day Motion which urges the Government to call for an immediate bilateral ceasefire in Gaza.

The MP for Woking expressed their complete devastation at the humanitarian situation in Gaza.  The motion addresses the tens of thousands of innocent Palestinians who have been killed as well as the million displaced and thousands of homes that have been destroyed.

Will Forster has also joined other Lib Dem MPs in condemning the deplorable attacks that took place on October 7th 2023 and urging Hamas to unconditionally and immediately release the hostages.

The Lib Dems have also highlighted the illegal settler violence in the West Bank which has been left unchecked by the Israeli Government.  The Lib Dem motion calls for the new Labour Government to sanction all violent settlers who breach international law and their connected entities.

Will Forster and the Lib Dems have also stressed that a two-state solution based on 1967 borders with Hamas not in power is the only path to regional security.  The party is calling on the Government to immediately recognise the state of Palestine.

Speaking afterwards, Will Forster, MP for Woking said:

“The devastation in Israel and Gaza over the last 9 months, with the terrible terrorist attacks on 7th October and the subsequent conflict in Gaza which has seen tens of thousands of innocent Palestinians killed, has been horrifying.”

“The Lib Dems have been calling for an immediate bilateral ceasefire since November 2023.  We are absolutely clear that this is the only way to end the killing, to restore the flow of desperately needed humanitarian aid, and to get the hostages back to their loved ones.”
