Ellen Nicholson – Surrey County Council Candidate for Woking South East

Ellen has served as a Mount Hermon Liberal Democrat councillor since May 2021 and is currently the portfolio holder for Environment and Leisure at Woking Council. With strong family ties across Surrey, Ellen has lived in Woking for nearly nine years.

A successful NHS professional and former business director, Ellen brings a solutions-focused approach to local issues. She has been a dedicated advocate for residents on planning, social care, health, and environmental matters. Ellen uses her healthcare expertise as a governor at Ashford and St. Peter's Hospital and is actively involved in local organisations.

As a Borough councillor, Ellen has handled multiple casework issues, secured funding for projects like automatic doors and resurfacing, and played a key role in saving Woking’s Pool in the Park. She has worked tirelessly to smooth the impact the Woking budget cuts had on local services, including supporting community groups in taking over council assets, and has worked to improve playgrounds across Woking. Currently, she oversees the new grounds maintenance contract and the re-procurement of Woking's leisure and waste services.

Ellen’s priorities for County Council include better special education support, enhanced social care for vulnerable residents, and action on environmental issues.

"I’m proud to live in Surrey and stand for a councillor, who will put local people first and fight for a fair deal for Woking."
