Woking Liberal Democrats are pleased to announce our manifesto for the 2021 Woking Borough Local Elections. For more information on who your candidate is look here.

We will provide affordable homes, be open and transparent and control development, fostering a vibrant post covid economy in a clean, green and safe borough that offers leisure and wellbeing for all.

Provide Affordable Homes

  • Enforce Council's policy for developers to build 40% affordable homes.
  • Use brownfield sites and national funds for affordable homes.
  • Ensure town centre brownfield sites being developed as part of government funding deal for Victoria Arch have 40% affordable homes.

Be open and transparent

  • Open Council business to the public
  • Tell you what we are doing with your money
  • Meet with local people and resident groups twice a year to engage on future plans
  • No more secret deals.

Control development

  • Work with the public to create a masterplan for our town
  • Limit skyscraper heights by making best use of space whilst meeting government building requirements
  • Assess the future infrastructure needs of each area of Woking
  • Encourage neighbourhood plans to give more local say on planning
  • Plan for the needs of a post-Covidworld

A Vibrant post-Covid Economy

  • Create a diverse town centre that attracts shoppers and leisure users for theatre, cinema, music, art and more
  • Support local High Street and independent businesses
  • Embrace the new way of working with flexible office spaces, and innovative schemes for part-time commuters.

A Green and Safe Borough

  • Work with public to go carbon neutral.
  • Easier waste disposal, CCTV for fly tippers, more bins and 'take litter home' campaign
  • Better, safer walking and cycling routes
  • Electric charging points for cars and bikes, in town and local communities
  • Deliver flood relief schemes
  • Work with police, youth service providers and housing providers to tackle anti-social behaviour

Leisure and Wellbeing for all

  • Improve parks and open spaces to give leisure for all.
  • Refresh playgrounds and build facilities for older children, skateparks, pitches, outdoor fitness areas.
  • Prioritise physical & mental health in all council parks.
  • Promote underused open spaces for walking and cycling
