Surrey County Council unveil cuts to Woking Library opening times.
Surrey County Council has unveiled the latest in their ongoing cuts to services, this time, further cuts to Surrey's Libraries.
Surrey County Council has announced cuts to library opening times as their latest cuts agenda item, typically for the Tory-run council's lack of transparency, it is not possible to see exactly what the changes are in the information they have provided. We have compared the changes and the current opening hours for libraries in and and around Woking.
Woking Library is to have its evening hours reduced by 1.5hrs, closing earlier at 5:30pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday. West Byfleet and Knaphill libraries do not face any changes (but are only open 4 days a week currently).
Across Surrey 28 larger libraries will see a reduction of opening hours of between 1.5 and 3.5 hrs per week.
Commenting on the changes, Woking Councillor Will Forster said;
"These penny pinching cuts to Surrey's libraries are disappointing for those residents who visit our libraries in the evenings. However, they are just the latest in Surrey County Council's ongoing agenda of cuts to services. My colleagues and I do not support closing Woking Library early and we are working hard protect essential services for vulnerable Surrey residents."
