The Lib Dems have accused the Conservative party of a "stitch up" and demanded Conservative MPs back a bill in Parliament which calls for a General Election.

Lib Dems MPs have tabled a Bill in Parliament today and will be given its First Reading on Wednesday after Prime Minister's Questions. The Bill calls for an election by the 1st December.

Responding to Rishi Sunak being appointed the third Conservative Prime Minister in three months, Lib Dem candidate for Woking, Will Forster said:

"This Conservative Party stitch-up has left the country with another out of touch Prime Minister who nobody voted for."

"Rishi Sunak has shown time and time again that he does not understand the challenges facing struggling families and pensioners - whether it is paying their heating bills this winter or waiting weeks to see a GP or dentist. We did not vote for this."

"The Conservative Party has trashed the British economy, pushed our local health services to the brink, and added hundreds of pounds to people's monthly mortgage payments."

"I hear from lifelong Conservative voters in Woking regularly who tell me this Government takes our area for granted and has lost all credibility. Woking's Conservative MP must do their patriotic duty and back our Bill in Parliament to deliver a General Election."
