POLL SHOWS LIB DEMS CAN WIN IN WOKING

24 Apr 2005

A new opinion poll has shown that Liberal Democrat candidate Dr Anne Lee can win in Woking.

The poll which was conducted by independent pollsters ICM last week asked: "If you thought that the Liberal Democrats could win in your constituency would you vote for them, not change your vote, or switch to another party?" Analysis of the results showed that the % of the votes would be as follows:

Liberal Democrat 39

Labour 31

Conservative 26

The result, according to a computer analysis by the Liberal Democrats, could mean victory for Anne Lee in Woking..

Liberal Democrat leader Charles Kennedy said; "This goes to show when people think the Liberal Democrats can win, the Liberal Democrats do win. In Woking that would mean victory for Anne Lee. The Liberal Democrats are the real alternative in this election, and this poll shows that if everybody in Woking who supports the Liberal Democrats' positive plans for Britain voted for us we could win here."

Anne Lee said: "Our phones are ringing every ten minutes with new people pledging support or asking for posters. The revelation in Saturday's Times (23.4.05) in a front page article has taken our already strong campaign to another level. The article was headed "The two faces of top Tory's migrant campaign' and said that the Conservative candidate in Woking has been "attacked for hypocrisy" and even the Muslim Council of Great Britain condemned the Tories in Woking. They said: "This sort of crude electioneering is.bringing our whole political system into disrepute".
