MEETING OF MINDS AT MAYBURY CENTRE

13 Apr 2005

Members of the ethnic minorities were invited to a meeting at the Maybury Centre on Wednesday April 13th to discuss the issues that concern them, the needs of their community and what they want for Woking. A full meeting room listened to Dr Anne Lee speak and addressed questions to a panel including Borough Councillors and County Council Candidates. The audience included senior members of several communities and they quizzed Anne closely on Liberal Democrat policies over policing, health services and public transport.

Some of the panel and audience with Dr Anne Lee who stayed after the meeting to discuss policy and problems with each other.

At the meeting Anne Lee said: "There are many reasons why Liberal Democrats could win Woking this time. We have a history of growing electoral success in this area, many Labour party members (some of whom were in the audience) have said that they want us to win in Woking. On the doorstep I meet former Conservatives who are shocked by some of the language that the Tories are using and there are a number of voters who just want a change and would like to see a woman in Parliament".

. .

Said Dr Lee, " I am encouraged and delighted by the level of support I am receiving from across Woking."
