The local Lib Dems have welcomed the announcement by the Government that part of a £20 million Rough Sleeping Fund will go to help rough sleepers in Woking.

The fund will help new rough sleepers, or people at imminent risk of sleeping rough, to get the rapid support they need to recover and move on from rough sleeping. The grant will provide £370,000 to hire four Support Workers, two which will have mental health expertise, to support homeless people in Woking.

Lib Dem Group Leader on Woking Borough Council, Councillor Will Forster, said:

"I am pleased to see that the York Road Project will take a lead on this. I visited them just before Christmas to discuss the needs of Woking's rough sleepers and help them lobby for both additional funding and space to let them do their vital work."

"I am delighted that the Government has realised that funds are desperately needed to help rough sleepers in Woking. This money will go some way in supporting some of the most vulnerable in society. Woking Borough Council now needs to continue to work with the York Road Project to identify where the targeted funds are needed and work to provide an innovative approach to tackling homelessness and rough sleeping."
