Lib Dems storm to victory in Michael Howard's backyard

26 Mar 2006

The Lib Dems have swept to victory in the Cheriton by-election for Folkestone Town Council this evening, with over 200 votes more than the Conservatives who came second. The result in full was:

Lib Dem Tim Prater - 504

Conservative - 294

People First - 262

Go Folkestone - 126

Impeach Tony Blair - 18

Delighted Lib Dem candidate Tim Prater firstly thanked the voters of Cheriton for their support.

"It's a real honour to be elected to represent Cheriton, and I plan to do so to the best of my ability. I look forward to working with my fellow Town Councillors for Cheriton and the Lib Dem group to get the best for the area.

"Talking to people on their doorsteps over the last few weeks, I know what local people are calling for, and I will work to deliver them. Better priced parking in Folkestone. Better street cleaning. Better facilities. A feeling of security in local streets. A bit of pride in Cheriton and Folkestone. It's not much to ask, and I plan to work with Peter Gane and other local councillors to deliver real results."
