GREEN WOKING PRAISED AT NATIONAL CONFERENCE
Cllr Sue Smith, Leader of the Executive on Woking Borough Council wowed Lib Dem Colleagues at this Year's Conference in Brighton on Woking's achievements for the environment and, in particular, on sustainable energy. The Conference took climate change as its central theme, and discussed the urgent need for local as well as global action.
Woking was highly praised for both its energy efficiency - corporate and Borough-wide, and its groundbreaking Climate Change Strategy at several main debates. The Strategy aims to reduce CO2 equivalent emissions, aid adaptation to climate change and promote sustainable development in the Borough. Woking recognises that although this is a global issue the impacts of climate change will be felt by our residents locally - the recent floods in August are a good example.
"Woking can feel very proud of its record in this area - a record envied by many other councils", commented Cllr Sue Smith. She continued "I have been approached by so many councillors from other authorities wanting to know more. This recognition is a great tribute to the commitment we in Woking have to the Environment. "
