Ed Davey launches New Year campaign in Surrey
This week, the Leader of the Liberal Democrats, Ed Davey, kicked off 2024 with a campaign rally in Guildford, where he unveiled an ‘Ed Davey’s Tory Removals’ poster van.
Ed Davey and the Lib Dems have called for a General Election to take place on 2nd May this year, and will be tabling a bill in Parliament soon to bring about the return of the Fixed Term Parliaments Act.
The Lib Dems have seen sweeping gains against the Conservatives in Surrey in recent years. In 2019, the party gained control of Mole Valley District Council, in 2022 they won Woking Borough Council and last year, the Lib Dems gained overall control of both Guildford and Surrey Heath Borough Councils, as well as making gains across much of Surrey.
The party is now looking to build on these gains at the General Election, targeting marginal seats across Surrey.
Will Forster, the Lib Dem Candidate in Woking, said:
“I was delighted to welcome Ed Davey to Surrey earlier this week, so we could launch ‘Ed Davey’s Tory Removals’. This is the Lib Dems’ campaign to get rid of this failing Conservative Government and I am looking forward to campaigning across Woking for the forthcoming election to play my part.”
“The future of our country is too important to be left to one person. The date of the next election should not be decided on the whim of the Prime Minister. The Lib Dems and I want the Fixed Term Parliaments Act back in way so voters remove this failing Government in May.”
Lib Dem Leader, Ed Davey, added:
“The Lib Dems have seen spectacular gains against the Conservative Party across the home counties in recent years. But we know the real hard work begins now, as we build on our recent successes and get rid of as many Conservative MPs as possible at the next election.”
“Families across the Home Counties are fed up with seeing their rivers ruined by sewage, local hospitals crumble while mortgages and rents go through the roof.”
“This is the year we can tear down the Blue Wall and get rid of this appalling Conservative Government for good. Every vote for the Lib Dems is a vote to elect a strong local champion who will stand up for local health services and fight for a fair deal for their community.”
