Lib Dem Councillor Ian Johnson asked the Woking Council's Planning Committee to reject an application for an 8 storey block of 47 flats in York Road on Tuesday.

After the planning application was the presented to the Planning Committee, local ward Councillor Ian Johnson led the call for the application to be rejected. The committee eventually agreed that the development was too big and would be out of keeping with the neighbouring area.

Lib Dem Councillor for Mount Hermon West, Ian Johnson said:

"I am delighted that the concerns of residents have been taken on board. This proposal was wholly inappropriate for the area."

The other ward Councillor for the area, Liam Lyons was also pleased that this application was dismissed.

Lib Dem Councillor Liam Lyons added:

"It is obvious to residents of York Road and Waverley Court that this proposed development is completely out-of-keeping with the surrounding existing housing. It is too high and would exacerbate the existing problem of a lack of sufficient parking with high-density developments, which often impacts on nearby roads."
