13 Feb 2014

The Conservatives running Woking Borough Council are set to increase parking charges again.

In April 2013, the Council increased parking charges in the Town Centre's car parks by as much as 20%. The ruling Conservatives are now planning to implement a further increase by October 2014.

Second parking charge increase in 18 months.

On 1st April 2013, it cost £8 for day's parking in Woking. By the end of that month it cost £9 to park for a day. Now local Conservatives are hiking parking charges to £10 a day. Woking is now one of the most expensive places to park in Surrey.

Councillor Ann-Marie Barker said, "The Conservatives are hitting us with a 25% hike in parking charges in just 18 months. The one hour charge will become £1.30, an 18% increase in 18 months. Those parking for 5 or 6 hours will pay £6.10, an increase of 22%"

Inflating busting rise

Ann-Marie commented "Inflation is running at 3.5%, average wages are going up by less than 1% and the minimum wage recently went up by just under 2%. How can Woking Conservatives justify an inflation busting 25% increase in parking prices?"
