A CASINO FOR WOKING - LIB DEM COUNCILLORS TO HAVE A FREE VOTE

8 Mar 2006

Whether or not Woking seeks to have a casino is a major decision, with

many aspects. It needs a full debate, informed by equally full public

consultation.

"Sadly, because of the Tory Executive's late consideration of the matter,

and the application deadline of 31 March, it will now have a second-best

process. But I am glad that the Executive has decided - by three votes to

two! - to back the process proposed by Liberal Democrats in which all

Councillors will have a say. Individual Councillors should - and Liberal

Democrat Councillors will - have a free vote.

Philip Goldenberg

Woking Borough Council Liberal Democrat Group Deputy Leader
