Lib Dems slam Government's Gurkha decision

The Liberal Democrats have slammed the Government's decision on Gurkha settlement rights is as another huge betrayal of the Gurkhas who have served our country. Gurkha campaigners are sickened by the Government's new policy of extending automatic citizenship rights to those who served 20 years. The normal period of service for the majority of Gurkhas was 15 years.

Thousands of people in Woking will be taken out of income tax altogether by new tax proposals launched by the Liberal Democrats. And thousands more will see their income tax bill slashed by £700 a year.

LABOUR PARLIAMENTARY CANDIDATE GIVES UP ON WOKING

Woking Liberal Democrats were not too surprised to learn that Labour's prospective parliamentary candidate has given up on Woking. She is one of eight candidates who have applied to stand for the safe Labour seat of Erith and Thamesmead. The hustings and selection in Erith and Thamesmead made national headlines when Saturday's Labour hustings and selection was postponed because it was discovered that one of the ballot boxes had been tampered with.

CONSERVATIVES IGNORE PARENTS OVER SWIMMING LESSONS

At a Council meeting last night, the Tory-controlled Executive ignored the concerns of parents regarding the new changes in swimming lessons at Woking Leisure Centre. Concerned parents, Paul and Alison Szarvas, presented a petition on behalf of 95 parents on Monday 30 March at the Council's Scrutiny Committee. They protested the fact that parents would be forced to take young children to swimming lessons during school holidays.

LIB DEMS FIGHT WOKING ECONOMIC DOWNTURN

The Economic Regeneration Task Group, a cross- party working group proposed by Woking Liberal Democrat councillors to fight the Woking economic downturn, has started work in earnest. The Task Group has found that that the economic crisis has clearly hit Woking . Council officers consulted WAVS, the CAB and employment recruitment agencies to assess the impact of the crisis.
