Woking’s MP is ‘on the brink of losing’ say Lib Dems following historic by-election victory
The Lib Dems have said the Conservatives are on the brink of losing Woking Constituency following the historic by-election result which saw the people of Tiverton and Honiton elect a Lib Dem MP.
Last night, the Lib Dems won the once safe Tory seat of Tiverton and Honiton in Devon, overturning the largest by-election majority in the history of British politics in the process. It follows a successful local election campaign and similarly huge wins against the Conservatives in Buckinghamshire and Shropshire.
The Lib Dems overturned a staggering 24,000 majority coming from third place in Devon. The Tories' majority in Woking sits at just over 9,000, meaning the Lib Dems would easily win Woking at the next General Election if the Tiverton and Honiton result was replicated here.
Lib Dem Spokesperson for Woking, Will Forster, said:
"Last night proved people across Woking Constituency will have a clear choice at the next General Election - four more years of Boris Johnson as Prime Minister, or a new Lib Dem MP fighting for them and what they care about in Westminster."
"The historic result in Devon is clear evidence that this country is fed up with a Prime Minister who is out of touch, lies through his teeth and breaks the law."
"This is the third time in the past year the Lib Dems have taken on the Conservatives in their heartlands and won. People feel let down and taken for granted by this Government and they are backing the Lib Dem plan to get a fairer deal for the country and our community."
"If Tory MPs, even after last month's bruising local election results, including here in Woking where they failed to win a single seat on the Borough Council, plus three crushing by-election defeats by the Lib Dems, will not do the decent thing and show Boris Johnson the door then it is up to voters in Woking Constituency to do that at the next General Election."
