WOKING LOSES IN ROAD BUDGET
Surrey residents will be stunned to learn that despite the dreadful state of the roads the Tory administration is budgeting for the roads to get worse!
In January councillors were told that the transport budget would need to be increased by a further £2million just to stand still but the Tory Executive has only given an extra £1 million to the budget. This means cuts will have to be made in pothole repairs, cutting vegetation, minor road repairs and gully cleaning.
Lib Dem Spokesperson for Transport, John Doran says: "In Woking we are getting less than 2% of the total spend on maintenance and repairs while Guildford is getting more than 20%. No roads in Woking will get major maintenance in 2009/10 and only 2 roads will receive surface dressing. Last year the amount of money spent on safety schemes and the like was halved and the money re-allocated to maintenance to be spent in other areas."
