Taking the lead in 2018
Cllr Ann-Marie Barker and Cllr Deborah Hughes will lead the Liberal Democrat Group on Woking Council in 2018.
Cllr Barker continues her role as leader and Cllr Hughes becomes Deputy Leader. The leadership team was elected with the unanimous support of the Liberal Democrat Group. Cllr Hughes replaces Cllr Will Forster who is Mayor of Woking in 2018/19.
Speaking on her re-election as Leader Cllr Barker said:
"I'm delighted to be leading a larger opposition group on Woking Council. Liberal Democrats were successful in holding all our seats that were up for election this year. We also gained a seat to take our group to 8 councillors, cementing our position as the main opposition to the Conservatives on Woking Council."
Cllr Barker continued
"I'm very pleased to have Deborah as my Deputy. She has made a huge impact across the Chamber over the last 2 years. Her financial knowledge is incredibly useful and she has learnt a lot about the council's work in a short time."
Cllr Hughes, who has just been returned to her Hoe Valley seat with an increased majority, said
"I am looking forward to working with Ann-Marie and the rest of the group in the year ahead. The Liberal Democrats will continue to provide constructive opposition to the ruling Conservative Group."
