Lib Dems Win Woking’s elections 

The Lib Dems are delighted to have won overall control of Woking Borough Council after gaining 4 seats at the elections on 5th May 2022.

The Lib Dems won 7 out of 10 seats up for election this year and defeated the Deputy Leader of the Council in the process. The Conservatives failed to win a single seat.

The Lib Dems gained seats from the Conservatives in Goldsworth Park, Heathlands, Horsell and Pyrford wards, and comfortably held seats in Hoe Valley, Mount Hermon and St John's.

Woking Borough Council is now made up of 16 Lib Dems, 8 Conservatives, 3 Labour and 3 Independent Councillors.

Lib Dem Group Leader Ann-Marie Barker, said:

"The Lib Dems and I want to say thank you to the voters who have put their trust in us. We really appreciate your support."

"I am delighted that we have a Lib Dem majority. Woking Borough has the smallest number of Conservative Councillors in its entire history. The Lib Dems look forward to becoming the new administration when the Council meets later this month."

"We will take a long hard look at Council finances, taking the next steps after our financial review to ensure the affordability of Council borrowing. We will bring forward a Masterplan to control heights in Woking town centre and put a halt to the Croydonisation of Woking. We will move ahead on carbon reduction, taking the Council and then the wider Borough to net zero."

"People in Woking voted for change and the Lib Dems will deliver that change. It is time for a new start for Woking."
