Bailout Woking's Billions

The Liberal Democrats now running Woking Borough Council are ensuring the local authority lives within its means and is seeking to reduce the huge inherited debts are reduced by selling Council assets.

However, due to the former Conservative administration’s financial mismanagement, selling Council assets even at best value will not cover the debt.

The Minister for Local Government has said, “the Government will consider the appropriate action to ensure the Council can address its residual debt.  It is unclear at this stage what the appropriate amount, form or structure of any such action may be.”

We locally are doing everything in our power to live within our means and sell assets to pay off debt.  We the undersigned call on the Government to agree to write off Woking Borough Council’s remaining debt after it has sold off its assets.
